Ambassador Imran Haider Presents Credentials to His Majesty, The King of Bhutan

Ambassador Imran Haider, presented his Letter of Credence to His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, King of Bhutan, at an elaborate ceremony held at the Dechenchholing Palace in Thimphu yesterday morning.

His Majesty warmly welcomed the Ambassador and felicitated him on his appointment. He conveyed his best wishes for the people and leadership of Pakistan. The Ambassador thanked His Majesty and conveyed him the greetings and best wishes of the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promote friendly relations with Bhutan.

In the afternoon, the Ambassador called on H.E. Lyonpo D.N. Dhungyel, Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Bhutan. The Minister welcomed Ambassador Haider, congratulated him on his appointment, and wished him success in the discharge of his diplomatic responsibilities. During the discussions, the two sides noted that Pakistan and Bhutan enjoy cordial and friendly relations, found on mutual respect, goodwill and shared Buddhist heritage. They reiterated to continue the constructive engagement, which both countries have maintained since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1988.

The discussions also focussed on various avenues of cooperation including trade, climate change, disaster management, parliamentary exchanges and SAARC.

The Minister hosted a reception in the evening. The Officiating Prime Minister, members of the Cabinet and senior officials attended the event. While speaking on the occasion the Ambassador thanked the Minister for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation during his visit to Bhutan.

Ambassador Imran Haider serves as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh and as non-resident Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bhutan.
