Pakistan Customs officials at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, foiled an attempt to smuggle approximately 580 grams of hashish (charas) out of the country and arrested two passengers travelling to Dubai.
On 17 September 2026 at approximately 2200 hours, a Customs Machine Operator deployed at the International Departures area, while performing routine screening duties, detected suspicious baggage belonging to two passengers, a husband and wife, travelling to Dubai, UAE, on FlyDubai flight FZ-330.
Following the identification of suspicious baggage during screening, both pieces of baggage were subjected to detailed examination. During the examination, Customs officials recovered two wooden jewellery boxes fitted with specially designed concealments. Further inspection resulted in the recovery of approximately 290 grams (gross) of hashish (charas) from each box, bringing the total recovered quantity to approximately 580 grams (gross).
The seized narcotics were estimated to have a value of approximately Rs. 2 million.
The recovered contraband has been seized in accordance with the relevant provisions of law, and an FIR has been registered under the applicable provisions of the Control of Narcotic Substances (CNS) Act. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the complete circumstances of the attempted smuggling and identify any other persons involved.
Pakistan Customs, through its risk-based profiling, advanced baggage screening and targeted examination mechanisms, continues to strengthen enforcement measures at international entry and exit points. The department remains committed to preventing the smuggling of narcotics and other prohibited and restricted goods and safeguarding Pakistan's economic and national interests.
