Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has said Karachi Port’s liner shipping connectivity has reached its highest-ever level, with its Port Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (PLSCI) score rising to 343 in the second quarter of 2026.
In a statement on Thursday, the minister said the PLSCI, based on connectivity data covering around 900 ports worldwide, underscores Karachi Port’s growing position in the global shipping network.
Karachi Port’s PLSCI score increased from 309.81 in the first quarter of 2026 to 343.02 in the second quarter, the highest score recorded during the period covered by the data, he said.
Junaid Chaudhry said the improvement indicated growing connectivity between Pakistan’s principal port and international liner shipping services. Stronger maritime connectivity, he added, could support trade flows, improve access to global markets and create greater opportunities for exporters and importers.
According to the data, Karachi Port’s PLSCI stood at 329.24 in the second quarter of 2024 before declining to 319.20 in the third quarter and 323.67 in the fourth quarter. It was recorded at 321.70 in the first quarter of 2025 and 321.84 in the second quarter, before falling to 298.56 in the third quarter.
The index subsequently recovered to 321.91 in the fourth quarter of 2025 and 309.81 in the first quarter of 2026, before reaching 343.02 in the second quarter.
The minister said the increase demonstrated progress in strengthening Pakistan’s maritime trade connectivity. He also highlighted an improvement in the country’s overall Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (LSCI) ranking from 35th to 34th.
Junaid Chaudhry said ports were being positioned to play a greater role in international trade and regional connectivity, adding that improved connectivity at Karachi Port would help facilitate trade and strengthen the country’s links with global markets.
He said the government was focused on improving port services, facilitating shipping activity and creating an environment conducive to trade and investment.
The minister said stronger port connectivity was linked with greater trade opportunities and could help Pakistani businesses connect more efficiently with international markets.
He said the latest PLSCI and LSCI figures should be viewed in the broader context of efforts to modernise the maritime sector and improve the efficiency and competitiveness of the country’s ports.
Junaid Chaudhry said the government would continue working with port authorities, shipping lines and other stakeholders to further strengthen maritime links.
He described the latest figures as representing “stronger global links, more trade opportunities and a more connected Pakistan.”
