Federal Law Minister Formally Inaugurates Telecommunication Appellate Tribunal

Retired High Court judge heads the Tribunal; financial and telecommunication sector experts appointed as members

Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar formally inaugurated the Telecommunication Appellate Tribunal established for fair, effective and timely resolution of disputes relating to the telecommunication sector.

The inauguration ceremony was held here in Islamabad on Thursday and was attended by Chairman of the Tribunal Justice (Retd.) Muhammad Tariq Abbasi, Technical Member Imad Memon, Finance Member Muhammad Tanveer Butt and other distinguished guests.

Addressing the ceremony, the Federal Minister said that establishment of the Telecommunication Appellate Tribunal was an important step towards fair and timely resolution of disputes relating to the telecommunication sector. He said the telecommunication sector was playing an increasingly important role in Pakistan’s economic and social development, while rapid technological advancement had further increased the need for a strong, transparent and effective legal and judicial framework.

Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar said timely delivery of justice was a fundamental and essential requirement, adding that the specialized Tribunal had been established with the objective of ensuring fair, impartial and timely resolution of relevant disputes.

He said the Tribunal was headed by a retired High Court judge, while experts from the financial and telecommunication sectors had also been included as members so that legal, financial and technical complexities involved in cases could be effectively addressed and the Chairperson provided the necessary assistance and expertise.

The Federal Minister said the government was committed to strengthening institutions, ensuring the rule of law and providing accessible and speedy justice to citizens. He expressed the hope that the Telecommunication Appellate Tribunal would perform its functions with professionalism, integrity and impartiality and play a positive role in the development of the telecommunication sector.

He appreciated the efforts of the Chairperson, members, officers and staff for making the Tribunal functional within a short period and also lauded the cooperation extended by the National Information Technology Board (NITB) in establishing the institution.

The Federal Minister congratulated the Chairperson, members and the entire team of the Telecommunication Appellate Tribunal and expressed his best wishes for its success and effective discharge of its responsibilities.
