Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, reaffirming the government’s commitment to facilitating overseas Pakistanis, has directed that the verification process for passports and essential documents be made faster, easier and more efficient.
He was chairing a meeting of the Committee on Passport Rules on Wednesday. Officials from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Passport Department and other relevant authorities attended the meeting.
The Federal Minister said that overseas Pakistanis are a valuable asset of the country and emphasized the need to further improve existing procedures to facilitate them.
He directed that an integrated system be developed for timely verification of travel documents and other essential documents of overseas Pakistanis, while making the record verification process faster and easier.
Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar directed that a clear timeline be prescribed for record verification and that an electronic mechanism be developed at the Ministry of Interior level to enable queries and necessary actions to be processed electronically at the earliest.
He stressed minimizing human interaction in the verification process and also proposed the introduction of a one-window verification portal.
The Federal Minister directed that proposals for necessary improvements in rules and regulations be prepared to facilitate overseas Pakistanis.
He further directed the relevant institutions to present a clear course of action and procedure at the next meeting.
