On the directions of the Prime Minister, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) continues to convene the Emergency Response Committee (ERC) at the national level to review the evolving weather situation and ensure coordinated preparedness and response during the Monsoon 2026 season. The 18th meeting of the Emergency Response Committee (ERC) was held today at the National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC), Headquarters NDMA, Islamabad, under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, via video link. The meeting was attended by Chairman NDMA, Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik; representatives of Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), and senior officials from relevant federal ministries and departments.
The Committee reviewed the prevailing weather situation, hydrological conditions, temperature trends, weather outlook and the overall preparedness of relevant federal and provincial authorities. The National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) presented a comprehensive situational briefing covering the latest weather forecasts, river flows, hydrological conditions and the anticipated weather pattern over the coming days.
The NDMA team apprised the Committee that there is presently no active monsoon system affecting Pakistan and no significant monsoon rainfall activity is anticipated over the next couple of days. The Committee was further informed that temperatures are expected to rise across various parts of the country during the coming days.
The Committee was informed that, in view of the expected rise in temperatures, relevant authorities need to remain vigilant regarding heat-related risks, increased water demand and other associated impacts, particularly in areas likely to experience higher temperatures. The Committee also emphasized the importance of continued monitoring of vulnerable areas and timely dissemination of weather-related information to the public.
Provincial authorities briefed the Committee on their existing preparedness arrangements, availability of emergency resources, response capacities and coordination mechanisms with district administrations. Representatives of relevant federal and provincial departments and response agencies also shared updates on their respective preparedness measures and operational readiness.
Particular emphasis was placed on continuous weather monitoring, timely dissemination of early warnings and advisories, uninterrupted communication and maintaining the operational readiness of response agencies. The Chair directed all concerned departments and response agencies to remain proactive and ensure effective coordination at the national, provincial and district levels.
The Committee reiterated that NDMA, through NEOC, will continue to closely monitor the country's weather and hydrological situation and provide timely advisories to all relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety and protection of vulnerable communities.
