On the directives of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, a high-level government team comprising of Federal Minister (Public Affairs) Rana Mubashir Iqbal, State Minister for Power and Public Affairs Abdur Rehman Kanju, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Talha Burki and Additional Secretary PM Office Mohib Ali Phulpoto, visited the Headquarters of Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) on Monday for a comprehensive review of the organization’s operational requirements and to identify measures aimed at ensuring the smooth, efficient and uninterrupted delivery of its welfare services.
The team held an extensive meeting with Managing Director Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, Senator Capt. Shaheen Khalid Butt, and senior management, during which the organization’s operational framework, achievements, challenges and future requirements were discussed in detail.
The discussions went beyond the immediate operational constraints to examine the broader institutional landscape of PBM, including the strengths and weaknesses of existing systems, neglected and under-resourced areas, emerging requirements and possible solutions. The participants also explored measures to improve institutional capacity and strengthen mechanisms for effective service delivery to deserving citizens.
The PBM management gave the visiting team a detailed briefing on the organization’s major requirements and challenges, particularly those relating to human resources, budgetary constraints, administrative matters, operational capacity and other institutional issues affecting the efficient implementation of its mandate.
The team was also briefed on the significant reforms and initiatives recently undertaken by PBM to improve transparency, accountability, efficiency and responsiveness. The management shared its experience of implementing these reforms and outlined areas where further institutional support would be required to consolidate the gains already achieved.
The meeting also focused on the way forward, with participants discussing practical and sustainable measures to strengthen PBM’s institutional structure and operational capacity. Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring that available resources are utilized efficiently and that the organization remains responsive to the needs of the poor, vulnerable and deprived segments of society.
The visiting team appreciated the reform-oriented measures being undertaken by PBM Chief and acknowledged the organization’s vital role in providing assistance to millions of deserving citizens across the country. The team assured the PBM management of its full cooperation and vowed to take necessary measures for the resolution of the issues identified during the review.
The review is part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen public institutions and improve the delivery of social protection services.
