H.E. Ms. Ina Lepel, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Pakistan, called on the Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and extended warm felicitation on recent upgrade of Pakistan’s sovereign credit rating by Moody’s and appreciated the progress made by Pakistan on economic front despite regional geo strategic challenges. She noted that the improved rating reflected greater confidence in Pakistan’s economic outlook and reform efforts.
The Finance Minister highlighted Pakistan’s recent macroeconomic progress, including stronger foreign exchange buffers and continued efforts to maintain fiscal discipline. He highlighted the Government’s focus on sustaining macroeconomic stability, advancing structural reforms and creating a more conducive environment for investment and business activity.
The discussion also covered matters relating to German multinational companies operating in Pakistan and opportunities to further strengthen the business environment. The Finance Minister emphasized the importance of policy continuity, improved business facilitation and institutional reforms to support greater economic engagement.
The Finance Minister also outlined the Government’s ongoing digitalization of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the role of technology-driven reforms in improving tax administration, transparency and efficiency. He highlighted that greater digitalization would simplify processes, strengthen compliance and contribute to a more efficient, transparent and predictable ecosystem for international businesses operating in Pakistan.
Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb emphasized the Government’s continued focus on strengthening institutions, improving the business environment and advancing reforms aimed at supporting sustainable economic growth and investor confidence.
H.E. Ms. Ina Lepel appreciated the Government’s ongoing efforts towards economic stabilization and structural reforms, and reaffirmed Germany’s continued interest in strengthening bilateral economic and business relations with Pakistan. She also expressed support for sustained engagement and greater collaboration between German companies and their Pakistani counterparts.
She also extended an invitation to the Finance Minister to the 19th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business (APK), to be held in Seoul later this year. The Conference aims to provide a platform for dialogue between business and political leaders and to foster economic relations between Europe's largest economy and the Indo-Pacific region.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment to maintaining close engagement and exploring further opportunities to deepen Pakistan–Germany economic cooperation and strengthen business ties.
