Aurangzeb Khan Khichi Highlights Role of Literature in Building Society

Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Aurangzeb Khan Khichi has said that poets and writers play an important role in building and shaping society, while literary gatherings contribute significantly to intellectual and cultural development.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a ceremony held in Islamabad to honour renowned educationist, intellectual, poet and humorist Prof. Dr. Inam-ul-Haq Javed on the publication of his Kulliyat-e-Mazahiya Shairi (Collected Humorous Poetry). The event was organized by Bazm-e-Adab Islamabad in collaboration with the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL).

Aurangzeb Khan Khichi said such literary events promote intellectual and cultural enrichment and strengthen the concept of “literature for life.” He described the Pakistan Academy of Letters as an important and beautiful component of the National Heritage and Culture Division’s institutions.

The Federal Minister congratulated Dr. Inam-ul-Haq Javed on the publication of his collected works and appreciated Bazm-e-Adab Islamabad and the Pakistan Academy of Letters for organizing the prestigious literary gathering.

Former Inspector General of Police and guest of honour Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema described Dr. Inam-ul-Haq Javed as a refined and distinctive humorist, saying his poetry reflects diversity, satire and keen observation of society. He also appreciated Dr. Javed’s administrative abilities.

Syed Tahir Shahbaz said that a literary work reflects the personality of its author. Referring to Dr. Javed’s professional and literary journey, he described his nine-book collection as a “rainbow of nine colours,” reflecting different dimensions of his literary career.

Chairperson of the Pakistan Academy of Letters Prof. Dr. Najiba Arif congratulated Dr. Javed on the publication and said that meaningful humour can only be produced by a poet who understands social pain and oppression. She observed that his poetry combines humour with social awareness and human sensitivity.

Dr. Arshad Mahmood Nashad said humour is a way of coping with the difficulties of life, adding that Dr. Javed’s poetry draws upon his deep study of life and extensive observation. Brigadier (Retd.) Dr. Safdar Ali Shah highlighted his command of language, refinement and fearlessness, while Dr. Syed Raghib Ali discussed various aspects of his humorous poetry through selected verses.

Dr. Amjad Ali Bhatti also spoke about Dr. Inam-ul-Haq Javed’s personality and literary contributions.

In his remarks, Dr. Inam-ul-Haq Javed presented selected verses from his early poetry and his Kulliyat, and thanked the organizers for arranging the ceremony.
