A flag-hoisting ceremony was held at Pakistan House, Singapore, to celebrate the 80th Independence Day of Pakistan. Members of the Pakistani community, officials of the High Commission of Pakistan, and their families attended the ceremony.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran. High Commissioner of Pakistan to Singapore Rabia Shafiq hoisted the national flag to the tune of the National Anthem. Messages from the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out on the occasion.
In her remarks, the High Commissioner said that Pakistanis were celebrating Independence Day across the world with renewed commitment to the ideals of freedom, unity, and national progress. She paid rich tribute to the struggle and visionary leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, whose leadership culminated in the creation of Pakistan. She noted that the Government of Pakistan is observing the 150th Birth Anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah this year through a range of commemorative activities.
The High Commissioner highlighted the resilience of the Pakistani nation and underscored Pakistan’s continued role as an advocate and interlocutor for peace in the region and beyond. She also congratulated the nation on the landmark ‘Makkah Joint Defence Agreement’ which reaffirms Pakistan’s resolve to strengthen cooperation in addressing the evolving peace and security challenges facing our region. She reaffirmed that Pakistan would continue to play its role in promoting peace, stability, and cooperation at the regional and global levels.
The High Commissioner also commended the overseas Pakistani community for its invaluable role in projecting Pakistan’s culture and positive image abroad, as well as for its significant contribution to the country’s economy through remittances.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for global peace and for the security, stability, and economic prosperity of Pakistan, in accordance with the vision and ideals of the country’s founding fathers.
