President receives credentials from ambassadors-designate of Italy and Republic of Korea

Islamabad: August 12, 2026

President Asif Ali Zardari received the credentials of Ambassador-designate of Italy Ugo Ciarlatani and Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Korea Han Sungho at Aiwan-e-Sadr today.

While talking to Ambassador Ciarlatani the President expressed confidence that his tenure would contribute to further strengthening Pakistan-Italy relations. He noted the steady growth in bilateral ties, particularly in trade and investment, with bilateral trade having surpassed the US$1 billion mark, and welcomed the signing of the agreement on abolition of visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders.

The President also appreciated Italy’s support for Pakistan’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2025-26 term and highlighted the importance of the Pakistani community in Italy as a bridge between the two countries.

During his meeting with Ambassador Han Sungho, the President said Pakistan attaches great importance to its multidimensional relationship with the Republic of Korea. He expressed Pakistan’s desire to further expand trade and investment ties, noting the ongoing negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, and welcomed cooperation in climate change, development and defence.

The President expressed the hope that cooperation between the two countries in areas including shipbuilding, technology and economic development would continue to grow.

Senator Saleem Mandviwalla and Secretary Foreign Affairs were also present during the meeting.
