An event to commemorate the 7 th anniversary of India's unilateral and unlawful action
of August 5, 2019 was organized at Embassy of Pakistan, Tehran. On this day the legal
and political identity of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K) was
extinguished by abrogating the article 35A and 370 of the constitution that guaranteed
special autonomous status for IIOJK.
The messages of Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President
of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari were read out on the occasion. Special documentary
highlighting atrocities of Indian Government in IIOJK in violation of United Nation's
agreements was run. The event was attended by Pakistani Nationals, Students
Representative of academia and Media persons.
Prominent Iranian Scholar Ms. Samaneh Khalafzadeh while speaking on the occasion
highlighted the struggle of Kashmiris. She quoted sayings of Late Ayatullah Khamenai
in support of Kashmiri struggle and right of self-determination. She stressed the need of
raising the voice against human rights violations in IIOJ&K and its solution as per UN
resolutions at all forums.
Hurriat Leader, Syed Faiz Naqashbandi in his video message explained the situation of
the occupied valley at the time of abrogation of articles 35-A and 370.The act of
constitutional abrogation was not merely a constitutional change. Followed by a series
of demographic changes, he added. Domiciles were issued to non. Muslims, Media laws
were changed, indian central laws were implemented in violation of UN laws.
We
Kashmiris, he added, demand the implementation of UN resolutions in letter and spirit.
In his address, H.E. Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, Ambassador of Pakistan in Iran said, "To
regard this act of Indian government in isolation would be to ignore the deeper historical
continuum in which it is embedded. For 79 years, the people of Jammu and Kashmir
have awaited the fulfillment of a pledge made before the world. The United Nations
Security Council, through a series of binding resolutions, declared that “the final
disposition of the State of Jammu and Kashmir shall be made in accordance with the
will of the people,” expressed freely through a UN-supervised plebiscite. That promise
remains unfulfilled because India, which is a party to the commitment, chose to abandon
legality in favour of suppression".
He further stressed that self determination is a foundation principle of international law,
enshrined in Article 1 of the UN Charter and reaffirmed in the International Covenant
on Civil and Political Rights. It is the legal expression of political dignity, denial of
which creates a structural instability.
Ambassador Siddiqui said that the expansionist designs of India posed dangers not only
to its treatment of Kashmir. They extend to the broader fabric of regional peace and
legal order. India’s recent moves to undermine the Indus Waters Treaty, a landmark
agreement brokered by the World Bank and sustained for over six decades as a rare
pillar of stability between adversaries. India’s posture must be seen for its
instrumentalization of water as a weapon of war. It reflects a broader pattern in which
legally binding commitments are discarded
He maintained that Pakistan remains committed in its unwavering support for the
Kashmiri People's right to self determination and will continue its political, moral and
diplomatic support at all forum.
