On the directions of the Honourable Prime Minister, the Emergency Response Committee (ERC) continued its daily deliberations with its 10th session held at the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), NDMA Headquarters, to review the evolving monsoon situation and ongoing response efforts across the country. The meeting was chaired via video link by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, and attended by representatives of relevant Federal Ministries, Provincial Governments, Chief Secretaries, Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), and concerned response agencies.
During the session, Chairman NDMA and the NEOC team presented a comprehensive briefing on the prevailing monsoon situation, including the latest weather outlook, human and material losses, ongoing rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations, and the overall national response. The Committee was informed that all Deputy Commissioners in potentially affected districts have already been alerted regarding the forecast rainfall and associated risks to ensure timely preparedness and prompt response measures at the district level.
The Committee was further briefed on the flood situation arising from recent rainfall and the coordinated response being undertaken by Federal, Provincial and District authorities. NEOC informed the participants that rainfall is expected to continue over northern and central parts of the country during the coming days, while isolated rainfall is also likely over parts of southeastern Sindh.
NDMA also apprised the Committee of the relief activities being carried out in affected areas with the support of national and international humanitarian organizations. The Committee was informed that the majority of fatalities reported during the current monsoon season have resulted from the collapse of vulnerable structures and damage to poorly constructed buildings, highlighting the need for enhanced public awareness and enforcement of safe construction practices.
The Emergency Response Committee appreciated the tireless efforts of Federal Ministries, Provincial Governments, District Administrations, Armed Forces, rescue services and all responding agencies for their coordinated response in assisting affected communities. The Committee directed all stakeholders to further strengthen inter-agency coordination, maintain a high level of preparedness, accelerate relief and rehabilitation efforts, and ensure timely implementation of preventive measures to minimize the impact of future weather events.
