Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar on Thursday inaugurated the ICT-Enabled Library at the Federal Judicial Complex, Islamabad, and reaffirmed the Government's commitment to modernizing legal institutions through information and communication technologies to improve access to justice across Pakistan.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the Minister said that access to reliable legal information and advanced research facilities is fundamental to strengthening the administration of justice and enhancing the quality of legal education and judicial decision-making. He stated that the ICT-Enabled Library complements the Ministry of Law and Justice's broader reform agenda aimed at digital transformation, institutional strengthening, and improved public service delivery. Expressing confidence in the initiative, he said the facility would serve as a centre of excellence for legal research and professional learning for judges, lawyers, and other members of the legal fraternity.
The Minister also commended the Development Wing of the Ministry of Law and Justice for successfully implementing the project, describing it as a significant step towards building a knowledge-based legal ecosystem in Pakistan.
The inauguration ceremony was organized by the Development Wing of the Ministry of Law and Justice and was attended by judges of federal courts and tribunals, representatives of Bar Councils and Bar Associations, senior officers of the Ministry, members of the legal fraternity, and other distinguished guests.
The proceedings commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by welcome remarks from Joint Secretary, Ministry of Law and Justice, Mr. Shahzad Nawaz Cheema. He highlighted the Ministry's commitment to strengthening legal institutions through technology-driven initiatives and emphasized that ICT-enabled libraries would significantly improve legal research, professional development, and access to authentic legal resources.
The Project Director of the ICT-Enabled Libraries Project, Mr. Muhammad Javed, gave a briefing outlining the key features of the project. He informed the audience that the newly established library offers modern infrastructure, digital services, integrated ICT solutions, research support facilities, and access to approximately 5,000 law books and journals to facilitate legal research and learning.
Speaking on the occasion, Judge Anti-Terrorism Court, Mr. Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain, delivered the vote of thanks and appreciated the contributions of all stakeholders involved in the successful completion of the project. He emphasized that collaboration among justice sector institutions is essential for promoting innovation, legal scholarship, and improved access to justice.
Member Islamabad Bar Council, Raja Aleem Khan Abbasi also spoke on the occasion.
Prior to formal function, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar formally inaugurated the ICT-Enabled Library and toured its various sections. He appreciated the state-of-the-art facilities and digital infrastructure established to support legal research, learning, and professional excellence within the justice sector.
