Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, held a meeting with Ms. Fatma Varank, Deputy Minister for Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of the Republic of Türkiye and President of the upcoming COP31. The meeting took place in Shamakhi, Azerbaijan, on the sidelines of the COP31 Heads of Delegations Retreat.
During the meeting, both sides discussed their shared vision and priorities for COP31, which will be hosted by Türkiye later this year. The two sides agreed to develop and launch joint programmes in the run-up to COP31, with a particular focus on electric vehicles (EVs), electrification, improving energy efficiency, and strengthening the recycling industry.
Dr. Musadik Malik briefed the Turkish delegation on two initiatives currently under development by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, namely the “Green Field” Programme, aimed at fostering a green start-up revolution and supporting young entrepreneurs in developing innovative climate solutions, and the “Green University”, envisioned as a global platform for research and student and faculty exchanges to promote and advance commercially applicable research and innovation.
Both sides agreed to make significant announcements regarding these initiatives at COP31 and to explore opportunities for closer cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye in these areas.
The Federal Minister also conveyed the warmest regards of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to the President of the Republic of Türkiye and the First Lady, acknowledging her keen leadership and interest in addressing climate change and promoting climate action.
Dr. Musadik Malik and Ms. Fatma Varank reaffirmed the importance of Pakistan-Türkiye cooperation in advancing practical, innovative, and scalable climate solutions.
