A high-level delegation from United Nations, led by Mr. Tom Fletcher, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, visited National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) at Headquarters NDMA, Islamabad. The delegation comprised Mr. Mohamed Yahya, UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Pakistan, along with senior officials from UNOCHA and other United Nations representatives.
Team NDMA comprehensively presented NEOC capability exposition, along with Pakistan’s innovative transformation of Proactive Disasters Management response systems to reduce recurring disasters risks. Chairman NDMA Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik introduced various measures advanced by NDMA for regional integration and global DRR reset approach. The delegation was shown Pak NDMA’s excellence standards achieved in recent times, and plans of securing next stage of Next Generation Technologies, to create greater authentic Disasters Early Warnings (DEW) and choreographed synergetic actions by responders and resource providers.
Pak NDMA’s structured coordination with national and security leadership, extension of regular guidance framework for area governments and innovative connectivity with global academia, humanitarian responders and support enablers was peculiarly elucidated.
Dividends of multi-tiered coordination and resilient disasters response readiness were well acknowledged. Strategic appraisal highlighted localized risk communication, anticipatory actions administration, additional national resource mobilization and international coordination for pre-coordinated assured foreign support for disasters relief logistics.
During the session, “Disaster Lens 2026” was demonstrated (for Pakistan and global community) and vigorous sequences of Comprehensive International Simulation Exercises (CISE), were shown to the delegates.
The delegation applauded Pakistan NDMA’s superior high end niche disasters management method and trusted capabilities. Very strong desire was initiated for continued collaboration between Pakistan and United Nations in disaster management and emergency response.
Both sides underscored the importance of strengthening institutional linkages and promoting cooperation to address emerging risks associated with climate change and complex disasters.
