Ms. Michelle Bachelet, candidate for the position of the UN Secretary General, called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad today.

Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister Sen. Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Foreign Secretary Amb. Amna Baloch were also present.

While welcoming Ms. Bachelet to Pakistan, the Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s strong support for strengthening multilateralism as well as for ensuring the central role of the United Nations in addressing global challenges.

The Prime Minister called for upholding the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, faithful implementation of the UN resolutions and international treaties, as well as for achieving balanced progress across all three pillars of the United Nations - peace and security, development, and human rights.

He also called for enhanced international cooperation and increased focus on accelerating the implementation of the global development agenda.

Ms. Bachelet commended Pakistan's historic and invaluable contributions to the United Nations, and appreciated the country's ongoing contributions to regional and international peace and security.
