Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif's Message on the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 26 June, 2026

Islamabad: June 25, 2026

On the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Pakistan joins the international community in reaffirming its collective resolve to take all possible measures to combat this grave social challenge. This day serves as a reminder of the multidimensional human, economic, and social costs of drug abuse and trafficking, as well as their devastating consequences for societies worldwide.

This year’s theme, “World drug problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative responses" draws attention to the grave and evolving nature of the global drug problem.

Pakistan remains steadfast and fully committed to addressing all threats associated with narcotic drugs, including the emergence of new substances, illicit trafficking networks, and the accessibility of drugs, especially to our youth.

The Government continues to strengthen national capacities, enhance institutional coordination, and expand cooperation with international partners to eliminate drug trafficking. Only through the complete dismantling of illicit networks can we ensure a safer and more secure society.

Protecting our younger generation from the scourge of drugs remains a national priority. Ensuring drug-free educational institutions is among the most important steps toward safeguarding future generations.

Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) is undertaking effective measures to prevent drug trafficking, reduce drug demand, raise public awareness, and facilitate the treatment and rehabilitation of affected individuals. Government’s simultaneous focus on law enforcement, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation reflects a balanced and comprehensive strategy to address the drug menace.

On this occasion, I pay a special tribute to the brave martyrs of the Anti-Narcotics Force who laid down their lives in service of the nation. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering sense of duty remain a source of immense pride for all of us.

Furthermore, the Government of Pakistan is enhancing the capacities of all relevant institutions engaged in counter-narcotics efforts. In collaboration with provincial governments, awareness and prevention programmes in educational institutions are being expanded, while treatment and rehabilitation facilities are being further strengthened. Pakistan is also deepening international partnerships through intelligence sharing, joint operations, and effective regional cooperation to counter illicit trafficking networks.

I call upon parents, teachers, educational institutions, community leaders, the media, and our youth to play their vital role in the fight against drugs. Raising awareness, promoting prevention, and fostering a healthy and resilient society are our shared national responsibility.
