Chairman FBR and Secretary Finance Host Luncheon to Honor Budget Team for Successful Preparation of Federal Budget 2026-27

Islamabad: June 22, 2026

Chairman FBR, Mr. Rashid Mahmood Langrial, and Secretary Finance, Mr. Imdad Ullah Bosal, hosted a luncheon today to honor the core budget team responsible for the preparation of the Federal Budget 2026-27. The event was attended by FBR Board Members and senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and FBR.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman FBR commended the team for their professionalism, commitment, and tireless efforts in formulating a budget aimed at fostering economic growth while providing relief to the common citizen. He noted that given the breadth of stakeholders engaged, spanning revenue administration, the Tax Policy Office, inter-ministerial coordination, the Senate and National Assembly Standing Committees, and the provincial governments, the Federal Budget 2026-27 had been a particularly complex exercise to bring together. What made the outcome even more commendable was that the execution had been entirely seamless: every measure on which the budget was originally conceived was successfully delivered, with the joint workstream between FBR and the Tax Policy Office functioning with exceptional cohesion throughout.

The Secretary Finance congratulated the team on the successful preparation of a people-centric and growth-oriented budget. He noted that the true test of any budget exercise lay not only in the quality of policy design but in the ability of a large, multi-institution team to move in alignment, and that this team had demonstrated precisely that.

In a highlight of the occasion, the Chairman of FBR and the Secretary of Finance individually recognized the contributions of key officers by name for their efforts.

Member (Strategic Transformation) Dr. Hamid Ateeq Sarwar was commended for leading the entire budget process with distinction across every forum, from negotiations with the IMF and engagements with the Senate and National Assembly Standing Committees and other key stakeholders.

Director General TPO Dr. Najeeb Memon was recognized for initiating the conversation on relief measures within the constraints of the ongoing IMF program, and for mounting a sustained and persuasive case for their necessity, both for Pakistan's economic health and for long-term growth.

Member (Customs Policy) Mr. Ashad Jawad was commended for singlehandedly negotiating the customs budget, an acknowledgement of both the breadth of responsibility he carried and the skill with which he discharged it.

Member (Administration) Mr. Muhammad Iqbal Khan was recognized for the indispensable logistical support he provided throughout the budget exercise. From ensuring seamless arrangements for the budget team's working sessions to overseeing the printing and timely transportation of the budgetary documents with the precision the occasion demanded, his behind-the-scenes contribution enabled the team to focus entirely on the work at hand.

Directors TPO Mr. Ajaz Hussain and Chaudhry Munir Ahmed were also appreciated for their continuous hard work, dedication and professionalism throughout the budget-making process.

Project Director TDU Dr. Najeebullah was recognized in terms of his extraordinary hard work and commitment during the budget making exercise. He had displayed his intellectual depth and hardcore professionalism during this budget exercise.

Special Assistant to Member (Strategic Transformation) Dr. Zehra Farooq was also commended for her hard work and consistency throughout the budget cycle, and in particular for her technical and empirical policy briefs and research work.

And finally, Special Assistant to Member (Policy) Mr. Ali Abbas was recognized as the custodian of the budget document, acknowledged for the drafting of legislation, and for the painstaking work of compiling and collating inputs from across the budget's many contributors into a coherent and complete Finance Bill.

The luncheon served as a fitting acknowledgment of the cross-institutional coordination, intellectual rigor, and sustained dedication that made the successful formulation of the Federal Budget 2026-27 possible.
