The Consulate General and NBP Commemorate International Day of Family Remittances

Dubai: June 17, 2026

The Consulate General of Pakistan, Dubai, in collaboration with National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) UAE, commemorated the International Day of Family Remittances at a special ceremony held at the Consulate. The event also marked a significant milestone, as remittances from the UAE to Pakistan exceeded USD 1 billion during May 2026, underscoring the contribution of Overseas Pakistanis to national economy and development.

Addressing the gathering, H.E. Hussain Muhammad, Consul General, congratulated the Pakistani community in the UAE on the remarkable achievement and commended their continued trust in formal remittance channels. He stated that remittances are far more than financial transfers as these provide essential support to millions of families in Pakistan while contributing significantly to the country’s economic stability and growth.

The Consul General highlighted the Consulate’s continued support towards outreach efforts undertaken by the NBP in coordination with financial institutions, exchange houses, business councils, and community organizations, to encourage the use of legal and formal remittance channels.

Representing NBP UAE, Mr. Rashid-ul-Islam and Mr. Asad Malik thanked the Consul General for the continued support of the Consulate General of Pakistan, Dubai, and appreciated the Pakistani community in the UAE for its confidence in formal banking and remittance channels. On the occasion, the Consul General presented appreciation certificates to Mr. Rashid-ul-Islam and Mr. Asad Malik in recognition of their efforts in promoting formal remittance channels.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Muhammad Shabbir Merchant, Chairman of Pakistan Business Council Dubai, Mr. Saleem Akhtar, Vice President of Pakistan Business Council Sharjah, Mr. Khalid Hussain Chaudhry, President of Pakistan Social Centre Sharjah, Mr. Majid Rafiq, Country Manager of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) UAE, Mr. Mohammad Shoaib, Managing Director of Cake & Bakes; and other prominent members of the Pakistani community. Officers of the Consulate General of Pakistan, Dubai were also present on the occasion. The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony.
