Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, Minister for Minorities Affairs, Government of Punjab, called on Federal Minister for Law & Justice and Human Rights, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, in Islamabad today. Minister of State for Law and Justice, Barrister Aqeel Malik, was also present during the meeting.
The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere and provided an opportunity to exchange views on matters relating to minority welfare, interfaith harmony, and ongoing efforts to strengthen the protection and promotion of human rights across the country. Both sides discussed avenues to enhance cooperation between the Federal Government and the Government of Punjab in advancing initiatives aimed at promoting inclusion, equal opportunity, and social cohesion.
Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar underscored the importance of collective efforts to ensure that all citizens, irrespective of faith or background, are able to fully participate in national life and benefit from the constitutional protections guaranteed under the law. He reiterated that the promotion of tolerance, respect for diversity, and equal rights remains central to the Government’s human rights agenda.
Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora welcomed the continued collaboration between the two governments. He acknowledged recent progress in advancing minority rights and child protection, including the enactment of the Child Marriage Restraint Act, and appreciated ongoing efforts to strengthen the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) as an important institutional mechanism for safeguarding the rights and interests of minority communities. He emphasized the importance of sustained coordination to further promote inclusion, equal opportunity, and social harmony.
Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination on issues of mutual interest and reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting interfaith harmony, safeguarding fundamental rights, and fostering an inclusive, tolerant, and rights-based society for all.
