Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, on the occasion of World Environment Day, emphasized the urgent need for collective and sustained efforts to address environmental challenges and preserve natural resources for future generations.
In his message, the Chairman Senate stated that environmental degradation, climate change, deforestation, water scarcity, pollution, and biodiversity loss pose serious threats not only to ecosystems but also to sustainable development, public health, food security, and economic stability. He stressed that Pakistan, despite contributing minimally to global emissions, remains among the countries most vulnerable to climate-related disasters.
Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani underscored the importance of adopting environmentally responsible policies and promoting sustainable practices at all levels of society. He said that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility that requires active participation from governments, institutions, communities, and individuals alike.
The Chairman Senate called for enhanced awareness regarding environmental conservation, efficient use of natural resources, afforestation initiatives, clean energy adoption, and responsible waste management. He emphasized that investment in green development and climate resilience is essential for ensuring a safer and healthier future.
On this World Environment Day, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani urged citizens, particularly the youth, to actively contribute towards environmental protection through practical actions, including tree plantation, reducing pollution, conserving water, and promoting eco-friendly practices in daily life.
He reaffirmed the Senate of Pakistan’s commitment to supporting policies and initiatives aimed at environmental sustainability and climate resilience for a greener and more prosperous Pakistan.
