AMBASSADOR OF THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN CALLS ON HON’BLE CHIEF JUSTICE OF PAKISTAN

H.E. Dr. Reza Amiri Moghadam, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, called on the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Yahya Afridi, at the Supreme Court of Pakistan today. The meeting was attended by the Secretary, Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan, and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Hon’ble Chief Justice warmly welcomed His Excellency and underscored the longstanding, historic, and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran, founded upon shared religious, cultural, and historical bonds. It was observed that the enduring friendship and mutual respect between the two neighbouring countries continue to serve as a strong foundation for bilateral cooperation across diverse sectors, including the administration of justice.

The Hon’ble Chief Justice conveyed his sincere good wishes for the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran and expressed hope for their continued peace, stability, progress, and prosperity. He reaffirmed the esteem and affection that the people of Pakistan hold for the people of Iran.

During the discussions, both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional engagement and judicial cooperation between the two countries through exchange programmes, mutual learning initiatives, capacity-building measures, and sharing of best practices in judicial administration, court management, and justice sector reforms.

His Excellency the Ambassador appreciated the reform initiatives being undertaken by the judiciary of Pakistan and acknowledged the important role of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in upholding the rule of law and strengthening public confidence in judicial institutions.

His Excellency also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the judiciary of Pakistan in facilitating the expeditious disposal of cases involving Iranian nationals incarcerated in various prisons across Pakistan. He particularly thanked the Hon’ble Chief Justice for the attention being accorded to such matters and noted that a considerable number of cases had already been decided in accordance with the law, resulting in the release of several Iranian prisoners.

The Hon’ble Chief Justice reiterated the commitment of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the judiciary at large to ensuring the prompt, fair, and impartial administration of justice. His Lordship assured His Excellency that cases involving foreign nationals, including Iranian prisoners, are being accorded due attention strictly in accordance with the law and established judicial processes.
