Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif's Message on World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, 21 May 2026

Islamabad: May 20, 2026

Today, Pakistan joins the international community in observing the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development with renewed commitment and resolve. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all those around the world, and particularly in Pakistan, who value and celebrate the richness of culture, civilization, and our shared human heritage.

This important occasion highlights the vital role of cultural heritage in promoting social inclusion, mutual respect, and intellectual solidarity at both national and global levels.

Pakistan is a vibrant country bustling with diverse cultures, languages, traditions, and civilizational values. This rich cultural diversity is a defining feature of our national identity and a source of our collective strength. Indeed, these positive cultural values contribute significantly to national unity, mutual respect, tolerance, and social harmony.

The Government of Pakistan remains firmly committed to a comprehensive policy framework aimed at preserving and promoting our diverse cultural heritage.

The National Heritage and Culture Division is actively engaged in the preservation, documentation, and effective promotion of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Strengthening cultural institutions, supporting artisans and creative communities, and integrating cultural initiatives into national development planning remain among the Government’s key priorities.

At the international level, Pakistan continues its efforts to secure greater recognition for its unique traditions and heritage. Recent initiatives include endeavors for the inscription of Ajrak, Rabab, and Glacier Grafting on UNESCO’s cultural heritage lists. To empower artisans and facilitate their access to national and international markets, initiatives such as the “Creative Economy Accelerator” and other related programs have been launched. Similarly, the “Digital Cultural Platform” and the “Heritage Marketplace” have been introduced to promote cultural products globally and generate greater employment opportunities. Furthermore, the establishment of the “Centre of Excellence for National Cohesion and Outreach (CENCO)” reflects our commitment to fostering national harmony, dialogue, and cultural cohesion

. These initiatives collectively reflect the Government’s policy of recognizing culture as a powerful driver of sustainable development, social cohesion, and economic opportunity.

On this occasion, I call upon civil society, educational institutions, youth, and all relevant stakeholders to fulfil their respective responsibilities in preserving and promoting our cultural heritage and shared positive values. And thus to play a constructive role in strengthening national unity, harmony, and intellectual solidarity at both individual and collective levels.
