Ahsan emphasises dialogue for conflict resolution amid escalating tensions in Middle East at Narowal Peace Conference

Narowal: May 06, 2026, 2026

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, addressed the closing ceremony of the two-day International Narowal Peace Dialogue 2026, emphasizing that nations achieve success only when they stand united like a solid structure—“Bunyan-un-Marsoos.” He recalled that in the past, Pakistan emerged victorious in Ma’raka-e-Haq through unity, resilience, and national cohesion, and stressed that the same spirit remains essential to overcome present-day challenges.

Referring to the evolving global environment, the Federal Minister stated that amid rising international tensions, Pakistan has once again demonstrated its unique and constructive diplomatic role in promoting peace and stability. He noted that at a time when escalation between major global actors risks undermining regional and global security, Pakistan has consistently advocated restraint, dialogue, and diplomacy over confrontation.

He underscored that such efforts reflect the enduring relevance of Pakistan’s principled foreign policy, rooted in the belief that sustainable peace can only be achieved through engagement and mutual understanding. In this context, he described the International Narowal Peace Dialogue as a timely and significant initiative, reinforcing Pakistan’s growing contribution to global peacebuilding and its commitment to bridging divides among nations.

Expressing confidence in the participants, he said they would carry forward the message of peace, love, and brotherhood, emerging as ambassadors of positive change in their respective societies. He further highlighted that Pakistan, guided by its commitment to global harmony, continues to play a proactive role in facilitating dialogue and de-escalation at the international level.

He emphasized that such initiatives reflect Pakistan’s growing stature as a responsible and proactive advocate for peace, stability, and cooperation in an increasingly turbulent world.

Emphasizing the transformative power of education, Ahsan Iqbal stated that knowledge is a force that can overcome any obstacle. He observed with concern that the Muslim world fell behind in the race for progress when it distanced itself from knowledge and research.

He remarked that in the past, limited resources deprived many talented students of access to higher education; however, the establishment of educational institutions in areas like Narowal has empowered students from underprivileged backgrounds to transform their futures through knowledge.

Highlighting global disparities, he pointed out that smaller nations have surpassed larger populations due to their commitment to research, discipline, and unity. He stressed the urgent need to reconnect with knowledge, research, and the teachings of the Quran to reclaim a leading position in the world.

The Minister underscored that the future of Pakistan and the Muslim Ummah lies in the hands of its youth, whose mindset, values, and attitudes determine the destiny of nations. He explained that the primary objective of the peace dialogue was to shield young minds from hatred, prejudice, and division while promoting tolerance, harmony, and mutual respect.

He urged the youth to develop the awareness to reject all forms of discrimination, whether based on religion, sect, language, or ethnicity. Stressing national unity, he called upon citizens to embody the spirit of “Bunyan-un-Marsoos” — a solid and united structure to effectively confront challenges. He added that nations succeed when they stand united, recalling that past victories were achieved through collective strength and cohesion, and the same spirit is required today.

Ahsan Iqbal emphasized that Pakistan must now win the “battle of development” through unity and hard work. He maintained that if the nation collectively harnesses its potential, no force can hinder Pakistan’s progress.

Addressing students directly, he highlighted the importance of utilizing university life not only for academic success but also for character building, leadership development, and personality growth.

He encouraged active participation in co-curricular activities, conferences, and student platforms to prepare for future leadership roles.

He further stated that the government is committed to promoting the philosophy and poetry of Allama Iqbal to instill self-awareness, confidence, and national consciousness among youth. Reaffirming the vision for the future, he stressed that the younger generation must play a central role in transforming Pakistan into a developed and dignified nation by 2047, as this future belongs to them.

The Minister cautioned that if traditional approaches persist, Pakistan may face challenges when compared with regional counterparts by 2047. However, he expressed confidence that through unity, hard work, and a commitment to knowledge, the country can achieve sustainable progress and earn a respectable place in the global community.

Highlighting Islamic teachings, Ahsan Iqbal said that Islam and the Quran advocate respect for all religions and beliefs. He emphasized that harming religious sentiments or places of worship is contrary to Islamic principles, which promote mutual respect, tolerance, and service to humanity. He added that the role of individuals is not to judge others’ faith, but to contribute towards making the world more peaceful and inclusive.

He expressed hope that participants of the dialogue would carry forward the message of peace, love, and brotherhood, becoming ambassadors of positive change in their respective societies.

In his concluding remarks, the Minister thanked all participants, organizers, and international guests, stating that Pakistan is a peaceful and hospitable country, and such dialogues play a vital role in projecting a positive image globally.

Former Prime Minister of Morocco, Dr. Saad Fine El Otmani, also addressed the closing ceremony and praised the University of Narowal as a model institution demonstrating excellence in organization and administration. He commended the outstanding hospitality, excellent facilities, and warm reception extended to international participants. He noted that the forum effectively promoted dialogue, tolerance, consensus-building, and mutual respect — the core objectives of the conference. He added that such meaningful initiatives help bridge divides and bring people closer, expressing confidence that students of the university will emerge as ambassadors of knowledge and enlightenment, representing both the institution and Pakistan on the global stage.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Member Provincial Assembly and Chairman Public Accounts Committee, Iqbal Ahmad, presented the declaration of the Second International Narowal Peace Dialogue 2026. He stated that the foundation of this mission is rooted in faith, the Constitution, civilizational heritage, Paigham-e-Pakistan, the Charter of Medina, and the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The declaration reaffirmed the sanctity of human life, recognized religion as a personal matter, emphasized Islam as a religion of peace, tolerance, and justice, and called for equality, non-discrimination, and the promotion of a pluralistic society. It further highlighted dialogue as an essential tool for resolving differences and fostering harmony.
