Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, held a meeting with Mr. Ma Jun, President of the Institute of Finance and Sustainability, China, in Islamabad today.
During the meeting, Mr. Ma Jun briefed the Federal Minister on China’s Green Accelerator Program, which was initiated in 2016 with a comprehensive set of 35 policy recommendations consolidated into a single framework. He highlighted that China has since developed the world’s largest green financing mechanism, valued at approximately USD 7 trillion. He further noted that China currently produces around 70 percent of the world’s wind and solar energy equipment, as well as nearly 60 percent of global electric vehicles.
Mr. Ma Jun explained that the core objective of the Green Accelerator initiative is to develop bankable green projects by leveraging technology, finance, carbon markets, and project design capabilities. He emphasized that such an approach enables scalable and commercially viable climate solutions.
Both sides discussed the practical implementation of various green technologies and ventures across different regions. These included the production of biochar from jute sticks in Bangladesh, the use of intelligent precision irrigation systems in China and Uzbekistan, and sustainable desert agriculture initiatives in Abu Dhabi. The discussion highlighted the importance of adapting innovative solutions to local contexts while ensuring financial viability.
Dr. Musadik Malik briefed Mr. Ma Jun on the Ministry’s under-process initiative titled “Green Fields,” which aims to connect young entrepreneurs working on green ventures with national and international investors. The initiative seeks to promote green entrepreneurship in Pakistan and provide opportunities for youth to contribute to sustainable development.
The Federal Minister appreciated China’s leadership in green finance and technology and underscored the importance of international collaboration in advancing practical, scalable, and locally relevant climate solutions. He emphasized that Pakistan is keen to benefit from global best practices and partnerships to accelerate its transition toward a green and sustainable economy.
