PAKISTAN HIGH COMMISSION, SINGAPORE MARKS 60 YEARS OF PAKISTAN–SINGAPORE RELATIONS THROUGH QAWWALI EVENING

The Pakistan High Commission in Singapore, in collaboration with The Esplanade Theatre, organized a captivating evening of Qawwali titled “At the Feet of the Beloved” to commemorate 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Singapore.

The event, held at The Esplanade, attracted a large and diverse audience, including members of the diplomatic corps, art enthusiasts, business leaders, Pakistani diaspora, and the general public, reflecting the broad appeal of Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage.

The performance by renowned Qawwals Rizwan and Muazzam, nephews of the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, carried forward a 700-year-old Sufi musical tradition. Their soulful and powerful renditions enthralled the audience and were warmly received by all present.

Speaking on the occasion, High Commissioner Rabia Shafiq highlighted that Qawwali, rooted in the teachings of Sufi saints, represents a profound expression of love, harmony, and spiritual devotion. She noted that such cultural traditions serve as a bridge connecting people across cultures and borders, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue to promote cultural understanding and strengthening people-to-people ties with Singapore.

On the sidelines of the event, High Commissioner hosted a reception for diplomats and distinguished guests.

The evening successfully showcased Pakistan’s vibrant cultural heritage and underscored its commitment to fostering closer ties with Singapore through cultural diplomacy.
