Rawalpindi: April 30, 2026

Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, Barrister Danyal Chaudhry, has announced that cricket trials will be held on May 2 as part of ongoing efforts to promote sports in Rawalpindi under the vision of the Punjab government. He stated that young players will be given a golden opportunity to showcase their talent purely on merit.

Speaking as a Chief Guest at the CM Punjab Inter-District Kabaddi Championship 2026, held at ARL Hockey Ground, Morgah, on Thursday, Barrister Danyal said the Punjab government is prioritizing the promotion of sports. Following the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, world-class sports facilities are being provided to youth to steer them toward positive activities.

He emphasized that the development of sports grounds brings positive change to society and helps keep young people away from negative influences, adding that promoting sports is a critical need of the time.

Barrister Danyal further revealed that following the successful conclusion of the Inter-District Kabaddi Championship, the cricket trials will result in the merit-based selection of 10 players from the Under-23 category, 2 from Under-19, and 4 from the Open (no age limit) category. The selected team will compete at the Punjab level. With the support of the Sports Board, players will be provided modern facilities, training, and guidance to help them bring recognition to the country at national and international levels in the future.

He congratulated the organizers on the successful kabaddi tournament and praised the role of the relevant association in promoting the sport. He remarked that while sports were neglected in the past, the current government is taking effective steps to promote sports at the grassroots level and uncover new talent.
