MINISTRY OF HUMAN RIGHTS COORDINATES EXPEDITED REPATRIATION OF PAKISTANI NATIONALS FROM CAMBODIA AND THAILAND

An Inter-Ministerial and Inter-Departmental meeting was convened today at the Ministry of Human Rights, chaired by Mrs. Saba Sadiq, Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights. The high-level huddle included senior representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, and the Department of Passports and Immigration.

The meeting commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran. Addressing the forum, Mrs. Saba Sadiq expressed her gratitude to the participants for their prompt attendance, emphasizing the government's unwavering commitment to the welfare of overseas Pakistanis. She informed the participants that Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has issued special directives to the Deputy Prime Minister to personally oversee the cases of Pakistanis detained abroad due to immigration complexities and other legal issues.

During the briefing, the Director (MoFA) provided a detailed update on the 54 Pakistani nationals currently detained in Cambodia. He clarified that these individuals were taken into custody during recent operations by Cambodian authorities against illegal scamming camps. Consular access has been successfully established, and it was confirmed that the detainees are being treated humanely, provided with adequate food, and have not been subjected to any form of ill-treatment.
