Message of the Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Earth Day

Islamabad: April 21, 2026

Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, in his message on Earth Day, has said that protecting the planet has become one of the most pressing and shared challenges of our time, requiring collective awareness, coordinated strategies, and practical action. Chairman Senate noted that this year’s global theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” reflects the reality that the survival and well-being of Earth depend on the collective efforts of humanity.

The Chairman Senate observed that the impacts of climate change are intensifying globally and are increasingly evident in Pakistan as well. Rising temperatures, water scarcity, air pollution, and deforestation pose serious threats not only to the environment but also to the future of coming generations. He emphasized that addressing these challenges requires more than policy measures; it calls for meaningful changes in individual behavior and societal lifestyles.

He further highlighted that actions such as tree plantation, responsible use of water and energy, reducing plastic consumption, and promoting cleanliness may appear small, but collectively they can have a significant impact on environmental protection. He appreciated the role of educational institutions, civil society organizations, and especially the youth in raising environmental awareness and promoting sustainable practices.

Highlighting the role of the Upper House, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said that the Senate has made notable progress in environmental protection through legislation, active engagement of relevant committees, and effective policy oversight. He added that several initiatives aimed at combating environmental pollution, conserving natural resources, and promoting sustainable development are under consideration, which will help steer the country towards a safer, balanced, and sustainable ecosystem.

He remarked that Pakistan’s future is closely tied to a clean, green, and secure environment, and it is a shared responsibility to leave the planet in a better condition for future generations. He urged the public to treat Earth Day not merely as a symbolic occasion, but as a commitment to adopting an environmentally responsible lifestyle on a continuous basis.

In conclusion, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani stated that if collective efforts are directed towards positive and constructive action, achieving a sustainable, secure, and prosperous future is well within reach—and this is the true expression of our responsibility towards our planet.
