Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, chaired a weekly meeting of the Fertilizer Review Committee to comprehensively review the availability, distribution, and pricing of key fertilizers, particularly urea and DAP, in the lead-up to the Kharif season. The meeting was attended by provincial representatives, senior officials, and key stakeholders from the fertilizer industry. During the meeting, the Minister categorically assured that there is no shortage of urea or DAP in the country, and that sufficient stocks are available to fully meet the requirements of the upcoming Kharif cropping season. He emphasized that the Government is maintaining a vigilant and proactive monitoring mechanism to ensure uninterrupted supply and prevent any artificial disruptions in the market. The Committee was informed that substantial urea stocks will remain available throughout the Kharif season, with carryover reserves expected to stand at around 570,000 tonnes by the end of the kharif season. Similarly, DAP buffer stocks are projected to remain stable, with approximately 96,000 tonnes available until the end of July, ensuring smooth availability during peak sowing months. The Minister directed all stakeholders to ensure that fertilizers are distributed efficiently and reach farmers without delay. He also made it clear that no company will be allowed to engage in hoarding or artificially inflate prices, warning that strict action will be taken against any such practices. Highlighting the global context, the Minister noted that while international markets are experiencing uncertainty and price volatility, Pakistan has successfully maintained price stability by absorbing pressures through government interventions. He stated that the Government has consciously taken on this burden to protect farmers and safeguard national food security. “The entire world is facing uncertainty, but Pakistan has managed to stabilize fertilizer prices through timely and effective policy measures,” the Minister remarked. “There is absolutely no need for panic. Farmers and the general public can remain confident that essential agricultural inputs will remain available at stable prices.” The meeting also reviewed supply chain arrangements and logistics to ensure seamless transportation and availability of fertilizers across all regions of the country. Provinces expressed satisfaction over current supply conditions and reaffirmed their coordination with the federal government. Concluding the meeting, Rana Tanveer Hussain reiterated that the Government remains fully committed to supporting farmers and strengthening the agriculture sector. He emphasized that with adequate reserves, strong coordination, and continuous monitoring through weekly review meetings, Pakistan is well-prepared to meet its agricultural input requirements without disruption. The Minister urged farmers to continue their agricultural activities with confidence, assuring them that the Government will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure stability in fertilizer supply and prices across the country.
