Meeting Between Rwanda High Commissioner and Federal Minister for Human Rights

Islamabad: March 17, 2026

The High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda to Pakistan, H.E. Ms. Fatou Harerimana, along with her delegation, called on the Federal Minister for Human Rights, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, to discuss avenues of bilateral cooperation and matters of mutual interest. During the meeting, both sides welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries covering gender promotion, family welfare, and child development, including joint initiatives, exchange programmes, and capacity-building efforts. Signed in Kigali, it marks an important step in strengthening Pakistan–Rwanda cooperation, particularly in advancing gender equality, women’s empowerment, family protection, and child development. The High Commissioner appreciated the Government of Pakistan’s efforts in advancing gender equality, protection of women and children, and the various initiatives undertaken to promote human rights and social protection. She acknowledged the progress made by Pakistan in strengthening institutional mechanisms and expressed interest in enhanced collaboration to share experiences and best practices. The two sides exchanged views on enhancing institutional cooperation, including knowledge sharing, technical collaboration, and learning from best practices, especially in the areas of women’s political participation and gender mainstreaming. The Rwandan side also highlighted its own experience and progress in promoting gender equality. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation and strengthen relations between Pakistan and Rwanda in areas of common interest.
