Pakistan highlighted the scope and potential of its rice exports to Japan during FOODEX Japan 2026, one of Asia’s largest food and beverage exhibitions, held at Tokyo Big Sight from 10–13 March 2026. The participation of Pakistan’s rice sector at the exhibition reflects continued efforts to expand market access and strengthen trade engagement with Japan’s food industry.
Pakistan is among the world’s leading rice exporting countries, with a significant share of its production destined for international markets. Pakistani Basmati rice, known for its distinctive aroma, extra-long grain, and cooking performance, is widely used in international cuisine and is increasingly recognized by buyers in Japan’s hospitality and food service sectors.
As part of the outreach during FOODEX week, the Embassy of Pakistan in Tokyo hosted the “Pakistan Rice Experience – Aroma & Grain of Pakistan” on 12 March 2026, bringing together Japanese importers, trading houses, food industry representatives, and culinary professionals. The event provided an opportunity for Japanese stakeholders to evaluate Pakistani rice varieties and engage directly with exporters visiting Japan.
In his remarks at the event, Ambassador Abdul Hameed highlighted Pakistan’s position as a reliable supplier of rice to global markets and emphasized the importance of strengthening commercial linkages between Pakistan’s agricultural exporters and Japan’s food industry. He also noted that at a time when global supply chains and logistics are facing uncertainty due to evolving regional and international developments, dependable agricultural supply partnerships are increasingly important. Pakistan, he stated, remains committed to working closely with its trading partners to ensure stable supply and to contribute positively to broader food security through reliable exports.
The event also included a presentation on Pakistan’s rice sector and export capabilities by the Trade and Investment Counsellor, Ms. Madiha Ali, followed by a curated tasting of premium rice varieties. The presentation highlighted the distinctive characteristics of Pakistani rice and outlined opportunities for expanding its presence in the Japanese market through closer engagement with importers, trading houses, and food industry stakeholders.
Pakistani rice exporters participating in FOODEX Japan and related engagements included Meskay & Femtee (Pvt.) Ltd., Decent Rice Mills, Matco Foods Ltd., and Garib Sons, alongside established Pakistani brands already present in Japan such as Guard Rice and Mehran Rice.
The Embassy of Pakistan will continue to work with industry stakeholders and Japanese partners to promote Pakistan’s agri-food exports and facilitate greater trade cooperation between the two countries.
