Her Excellency Ms. Ina Lepel, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany
to Pakistan, called on the Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental
Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, in Islamabad today.
During the meeting, the Ambassador thanked the Ministry for its continued
support in advancing climate action and for its effective coordination with the provinces
on climate-related initiatives. She briefed the Minister on the wide range of collaborative
efforts underway between Germany and the Ministry of Climate Change, particularly
through the German development agency GIZ. These areas of cooperation include
climate adaptation and resilience, emission control strategies, capacity building, green
initiatives, and the development of pilot projects aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s
climate response framework.
The Ambassador also informed the Minister about a proposed project under
consideration with the Ministry of Climate Change titled CISTA (Integrated Climate
Information Services Value Chains for Transformative Climate Action). The project,
commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, aims to establish
integrated climate services and strengthen data management systems to enhance
evidence-based decision-making.
Dr. Musadik Malik appreciated Germany’s continued partnership and support in
advancing Pakistan’s climate agenda. He welcomed the proposed CISTA initiative and
suggested the organization of a joint workshop focusing on data integration and
information sharing to ensure effective implementation of the project.
Both sides discussed ways to further enhance the scope of bilateral cooperation,
including the development of joint research programmes, student and faculty exchange
initiatives, and strengthened mechanisms for data sharing and institutional
collaboration.
