President Asif Ali Zardari visited the residence of former Punjab Chief Minister Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo to offer condolences on his passing and express sympathies to the bereaved family.
The President met Begum Perveen Wattoo, the children of the late Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo and other members of the family, and conveyed his condolences on the sad demise of the late leader.
He paid tribute to Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo’s political services to the country and the province, noting his roles as Chief Minister of Punjab, Speaker of the Punjab Assembly and Federal Minister. He said the late leader had rendered valuable service to democracy and national unity.
Recalling his longstanding ties with Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, President Zardari said he shared the family’s grief and that his thoughts were with them in this difficult time. He encouraged the children of the late leader to follow in their father’s footsteps and play a constructive role in the politics of Punjab and Pakistan, and to work for strengthening the Pakistan Peoples Party in the province.
The President offered Fatiha and prayed for the departed soul’s elevation in Jannah.
Later, the President met party leaders at Wattoo House, where he discussed organisational matters relating to the party and reviewed the current political situation, with particular focus on the province of Punjab.
Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, Governor Punjab; Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Secretary General PPP, Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri, Shahzad Saeed Cheema, Makhdoom Usman Mahmood and Syed Hassan Murtaza, General Secretary PPP Central Punjab, were also present on the occasion.
