Inter-Provincial Dialogue Unanimously Condemns India’s Unilateral Action to Hold Indus Waters Treaty in Abeyance

Islamabad: February 17, 2026

An inter-provincial dialogue was held today at the Ministry of Water Resources, on the directive of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, to review long- and short-term availability of water on the western rivers in the wake of Indian violations of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT).

The meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for Water Resources, Mian Muhammad Mueen Wattoo, and attended by the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore; Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Yar Muhammad; Irrigation Minister of Punjab, Kazim Ali Peerzada; Minister for Irrigation and Planning & Development, Sindh, Jam Khan Shoro; Minister for Planning and Development Balochistan, Zahoor Ahmed Buledi; Secretary Irrigation KP (on behalf of CM KP) and senior officials of the federal and provincial governments.

Participants of the meeting unanimously condemned India’s unilateral action to hold the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, which has no legal basis. The Indian actions were found to be a threat to regional peace and security. The participants discussed ways and means to ensure water availability to the people of Pakistan.
