The Country Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP), Ms. Coco Ushiyama, called on the Minister of State for Railways and Finance, Mr. Bilal Azhar Kayani, in Islamabad today. During the meeting, both sides held detailed discussions on ensuring food security in Pakistan and further strengthening the ongoing humanitarian cooperation.
The Minister of State lauded the pivotal role of the World Food Programme in supporting the country’s social safety nets and providing emergency relief. He expressed a firm commitment to making future joint ventures more effective and result-oriented. Ms. Coco Ushiyama reaffirmed the UNWFP’s full support for the Government of Pakistan and assured continued assistance in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in eradicating malnutrition.
Both leaders agreed that in the context of climate change and evolving economic challenges, improving the food supply chain is a critical necessity to ensure that assistance reaches the most vulnerable segments of society.
