Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Division, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, has assured renowned actress Meera that she will be announced as a goodwill ambassador, following her request during a recent interaction.
During a call-on meeting held at the minister’s office, he also praised actress Meera and film producer Salman Butt for their significant contributions to Pakistani cinema and their role in promoting local films on international platforms.
Speaking about the growing global presence of Pakistani films, Khichi appreciated Salman Butt’s initiative to produce films specifically for overseas Pakistanis, describing it as a positive step towards reviving and globalising the national film industry.
“Although the films sector comes under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Cultural Ministry will also provide necessary support within its domain,” the minister assured.
He emphasised that such initiatives not only create opportunities for local talent but also help strengthen Pakistan’s cultural image abroad. Highlighting the importance of cultural diplomacy, the minister said cinema plays a vital role in projecting Pakistan’s soft image to the world.
Aurangzeb Khichi further lauded Meera for her continued involvement in meaningful and challenging roles, noting that her association with new film projects reflects the resilience and evolving strength of Pakistani cinema. He remarked that artists like Meera serve as important cultural ambassadors for the country through their work.
Reiterating his vision for the cultural sector, the minister stressed the need to promote films, music, and creative storytelling as essential tools for preserving Pakistan’s heritage. He encouraged greater investment in cinema, particularly by Pakistani producers based overseas, and assured full government support for initiatives that showcase Pakistan’s culture on global platforms.
The meeting also included a discussion on the upcoming movie “Psycho,” which is expected to be launched soon.
Later, Secretary National Heritage and Culture Division, Asad Rehman Gilani, was given a detailed briefing on the movie. He also lauded Meera and Salman Butt for their efforts to boost the film industry.
Actress Meera thanked the minister and secretary for assuring their support and cooperation in reviving the film industry. She further said that the Cultural Ministry’s role in promoting heritage and culture under the leadership of Aurangzeb Khan Khichi is commendable and expressed hope that the ministry would also support the promotion of films at both national and international levels.
Meanwhile, industry insiders have welcomed the minister’s remarks, calling them a morale boost for filmmakers and artists striving to elevate Pakistani cinema internationally.
