Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, H.E. Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, undertook an official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia, leading a high-level parliamentary delegation, marking a significant milestone in strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and bilateral relations between Pakistan and Cambodia.
During the visit, a high-level bilateral meeting was held between Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and the President of the Senate of Cambodia, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen. The meeting featured comprehensive discussions on matters of mutual interest, with a particular focus on enhancing parliamentary cooperation, further strengthening bilateral relations, and expanding political, economic, and people-to-people engagements between the two countries.
Both leaders exchanged views on exploring new avenues of cooperation in trade, investment, institutional collaboration, and parliamentary exchanges, reaffirming their shared commitment to deepening ties for mutual benefit. The discussions reflected a strong resolve to elevate Pakistan–Cambodia relations to new heights through sustained dialogue and cooperation.
In honor of the Chairman Senate of Pakistan, the Cambodian side hosted a grand official dinner, underscoring the warm and friendly relations between the two nations.
Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani’s visit is a clear manifestation of Pakistan’s commitment to further consolidating long-standing friendly relations with Cambodia, promoting parliamentary diplomacy, and exploring new dimensions of bilateral cooperation.
Earlier, Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani arrived in Phnom Penh with a high-level parliamentary delegation, where he was accorded a warm reception at Techo International Airport. He was received by the Second Vice President of the Cambodian Senate, Dr. Thun Vathana; Chairman of the First Committee of the Senate and Head of the Cambodia–Pakistan Senate Friendship Group, Angi Chanfal; Chairman of the Fifth Committee, Dr. Chiv Yi Seang; Director General of Protocol and International Relations, Nguon Sok Veng; and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Cambodia, Mr. Zahiruddin Babar Thethem.
As part of the official engagements, Chairman Senate visited the Independence Monument, where he laid a floral wreath to pay tribute to the national heroes of Cambodia and commended the country’s historic struggle for independence. He also paid respects at the Royal Memorial Statue of the late King Father Preah Borom Ratanak Kaoudh by laying a wreath, symbolizing Pakistan’s deep respect for Cambodia’s history, heritage, and national legacy.
Subsequently, Chairman Senate arrived at the Solidarity Palace of the Cambodian Senate, where a dignified official reception ceremony was held in his honor at the Polyarthipadi Hall. The President of the Cambodian Senate, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, personally welcomed the Chairman Senate of Pakistan. Both leaders reviewed the Guard of Honour, followed by the introduction of delegation members and a formal exchange of greetings.
The visit is widely regarded as an important step toward strengthening parliamentary, political, and people-to-people relations between Pakistan and Cambodia, while opening new pathways for sustained bilateral cooperation and mutual understanding.
