Islamabad: January 23, 2026

In a testament to his rising international stature, Chairman Senate of Pakistan Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has been appointed as Honorary Patron of the Global Muslim Business Forum (GMBF) – just months after making history as the Founding Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) and hosting a record-breaking summit in Pakistan that drew dignitaries from 45 countries with 117 participation.

The Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, has been formally invited to serve as Honorary Patron of the Global Muslim Business Forum (GMBF), an influential international platform promoting responsible economic leadership and collaboration across the Muslim world. The nomination reflects growing international recognition of Chairman Gilani’s stature as a senior statesman, parliamentarian, and advocate of constitutional governance and regional cooperation. Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, a former Prime Minister of Pakistan, currently serves as Chairman of the Senate, the country’s Upper House of Parliament, where he oversees legislative continuity, fosters political consensus, and safeguards parliamentary norms in a complex national and regional environment. His decades-long public career has been marked by engagement with governance challenges, economic development, and democratic institution-building.

At the international level, Chairman Gilani has emerged as a leading parliamentary figure. In 2025, he was nominated as the Founding Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), a newly established international body promoting dialogue and cooperation among parliamentary leaders worldwide. Within just four months of the ISC’s formation and his presidency, Chairman Gilani led the First ISC Conference in Pakistan, attended by Speakers of Parliaments and high-ranking dignitaries from 45 countries with 117 participation. The conference successfully positioned Pakistan as a hub for parliamentary diplomacy and highlighted his capacity to translate institutional vision into tangible results.

The Global Muslim Business Forum was established to connect political leadership, business decision-makers, scholars, and institutions committed to ethical growth, regional cooperation, and long-term development in Muslim economies. Chairman Gilani’s participation at the GMBF Summit in Kuala Lumpur in December 2025 was widely acknowledged as a significant contribution, enhancing discussions on governance, investment confidence, and economic collaboration.

In response to his nomination, Chairman Gilani stated: “I am honored to accept the invitation to serve as Honorary Patron of the Global Muslim Business Forum. The GMBF’s mission to foster economic collaboration and responsible leadership in the Muslim world is commendable and timely. As Chairman of the Senate, I envision stronger ties between OIC nations, focusing on trade, technology, and sustainable development to empower our communities. Initiatives like the GMBF can drive innovation, create opportunities, and address shared challenges such as poverty alleviation and climate change.” He added that he looks forward to supporting the Forum’s initiatives and participating in future engagements, contributing to a prosperous and interconnected Muslim world.

The appointment of Chairman Gilani as Honorary Patron signals his expanding influence at the international level, reinforcing Pakistan’s role in global parliamentary and economic discourse. It also underscores that credible economic cooperation in the Muslim world benefits from leadership grounded in experience, institutional understanding, and a commitment to sustainable development.
