Pakistan–Indonesia Make Significant Progress on Vaccine Cooperation

Federal Minister for Health, Syed Mustafa Kamal, during his official visit to Indonesia, held an important meeting with Mr. Shadiq Akasya, President Director of the renowned vaccine manufacturing company Bio Farma. The meeting marked a significant step forward in strengthening bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Indonesia in the field of vaccine production.

According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination, detailed discussions were held on expanding collaboration in vaccine manufacturing and advancing technology transfer between Bio Farma and the National Institute of Health (NIH), Pakistan.

The Federal Health Minister underscored the strategic importance of mutual cooperation in vaccine production and emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to achieving self-reliance through local vaccine manufacturing. He highlighted that technology transfer and capacity building between Bio Farma and NIH Pakistan would play a pivotal role in strengthening Pakistan’s vaccine ecosystem.

Mr. Mustafa Kamal stated that both institutions could jointly work through technology transfer initiatives, capacity enhancement, and practical measures to support sustainable vaccine production. He expressed Pakistan’s keen interest in benefiting from Indonesia’s extensive experience in vaccine manufacturing and establishing its own vaccine production facilities through close and result-oriented collaboration.

The Minister noted that this initiative would significantly promote local vaccine production in Pakistan and further strengthen health-sector cooperation between the two countries. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to ensure the availability of safe, high-quality, and timely vaccines for its population.

The Federal Health Minister concluded by stating that concrete steps are already underway to meet national vaccine requirements through indigenous production, reflecting the government’s long-term commitment to public health security.
