Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Peshawar, in an intelligence-based operation, conducted during the early hours of Thursday, seized a large consignment of smuggled foreign-origin cigarettes along with the offending vehicle, with a total estimated value of Rs. 48 million.
Acting on credible information regarding the movement of illicit consignment of cigarettes from Kulachi, Dera Ismail Khan, towards Peshawar through less-frequented routes, the staff of JCP Yarik, assisted by the Quick Response Force (QRF), intercepted a Mazda vehicle bearing registration number JV-4015 near Lucky Cement Factory, Pezzu, at approximately 0200 hours.
The vehicle was escorted to JCP Yarik for detailed examination, which resulted in the recovery of a substantial quantity of foreign-origin cigarettes. Following the recovery, the contraband goods along with the offending vehicle were seized under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1969.
The seized items included 2,000 sleeves of Milano London cigarettes and 6,100 sleeves of Mond cigarettes, all of foreign origin. The estimated value of the seized cigarettes stands at approximately Rs. 43 million, while the value of the offending vehicle is assessed at Rs. 5.0 million, bringing the total value of the case to Rs. 48 million.
