Customs Enforcement Gadani Seizes 30.5 MT Smuggled Betel Nuts Along-with 4 Passenger Buses Worth Rs. 252.5 Million

Enforcement Collectorate Gadani, in a major intelligence-based anti-smuggling operations with the support from FC and local polulice seized 30.5 metric tons of smuggled betel nuts of foreign origin along with four passenger buses near Ashok Pump, District Hub, with the total estimated value of the seized goods and conveyances amounting to Rs. 252.5 million.

The operation was carried out on the basis of credible intelligence received through the Chief Collector (Enforcement). Acting promptly, a Customs enforcement team was dispatched to the spot to verify and act upon the information.

During an initial reconnaissance of the area, the enforcement team assessed the likelihood of resistance and potential security risks. In view of the prevailing situation, assistance from the Frontier Corps (FC) and local Police was requisitioned to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the operation.

Upon arrival at the location, the team found the suspected buses parked as reported. As law enforcement personnel moved in, a mob gathered, creating disorder and disturbance. During the ensuing scuffle, the drivers of the buses managed to flee the scene. However, the situation was brought under control through the coordinated efforts of Customs, FC, and Police.

Due to the hostile environment and rising tension, the seized vehicles were immediately taken into custody and shifted to Customs Warehouse Gadani. A detailed examination conducted later in the presence of witnesses resulted in the recovery of 30.5 metric tons of smuggled betel nuts. The operation also led to the seizure of four passenger buses bearing registration numbers BSE-088, BSH-999, BSB-919, and BSB-613.

The FBR remains fully committed to curbing smuggling and corrupt practices to protect the national economy through sustained enforcement operations.
