Pakistan Customs Foils Attempt to Smuggle Silver via International Mail Office, Karachi

Karachi: November 11, 2025

The Customs officials at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, have successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of silver into Pakistan through the International Mail Office (IMO), Karachi.

During a detailed examination of incoming international parcels, the Customs team detected 79.18 kilograms of silver jewelry, valued at approximately Rs. 66.9 million, concealed in three separate consignments. The parcels, declared as “Ornaments/Fashion Ornaments,” had originated from Hong Kong and were addressed to a recipient in Rawalpindi.

Due to the stringent scrutiny measures in place at the International Mail Office, the smuggled goods were intercepted and seized in accordance with the law before delivery.

It has been noticed that the recent surge in silver prices has increased the risk of silver smuggling across Pakistan. However, this seizure marks the first major case of its kind at the International Mail Office, both in terms of volume and value.

FBR reaffirms its commitment to maintaining strict vigilance against all forms of smuggling, including attempts through postal and courier channels, to safeguard the national economy.
