Barrister Danyal Chaudhry, Parliamentary Secretary for Information & Broadcasting and Secretary of the Parliamentary Forum on Energy and Economy, today presided over a high-level parliamentary briefing to formulate Pakistan's national strategy for the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP30). The session, titled "Devising Pakistan's Plan of Action for COP30," focused on developing a unified national position and strengthening parliamentary oversight in climate governance.
The high-level meeting saw participation from key parliamentarians including Ms. Zeb Jaffar, Parliamentary Secretary Ministry of Defence; Mr. Pullain Baloch, Chairman Standing Committee on Information & Broadcasting; Dr. Shezra Mansab Ali Khan Kharal, Minister of State for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination; Ms. Shaista Pervaiz, Convenor of the National Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs and Ms. Farah Naz Akbar, Parliamentary Secretary for the National Heritage and Culture Division.
Addressing parliamentarians, climate experts, and international partners, the Parliamentary Secretary emphasized that climate resilience and accessible climate finance remain Pakistan's top priorities. "The integration of climate action with our economic stability is non-negotiable, and we are consolidating a unified national stance to protect Pakistan's interests on the global stage," Barrister Danyal stated. He stressed the need for specialized parliamentary committees to exercise rigorous oversight to ensure accountable use of climate finance and effective implementation of climate policies.
Highlighting the collaborative approach in preparation for COP30, Barrister Danyal noted, "We are harnessing expert insights and parliamentary wisdom for the strategic positioning and protection of our national climate interests." The briefing, convened by the Parliamentary Forum on Energy and Economy in collaboration with relevant standing committees, served as a critical platform to align national climate policy with economic goals.
