Karachi: November 6, 2025

The Ministry of Defence Production’s (MoDP) Pavilion has attracted large number of visitors during the course of the 4-day Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference (PIMEC) that got under way at Karachi on Monday. Visitors evinced keen interest in the wide range of products and technologies on display.

As a key participant, the Ministry of Defence Production (MoDP) has established a dedicated Pavilion at the Expo, showcasing the Ministry’s leading organisations and affiliated enterprises. The Pavilion comprises Directorate General Munitions Production (DGMP) and Directorate General Research and Development Establishments (DGRDE) stalls, both of which are actively promoting indigenisation, innovation, and self-reliance within their respective domains. Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KS&EW), National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) have also established dedicated stalls.

Through this collaborative platform, MoDP has provided an opportunity to emerging and established private sector firms to display their products, interact with prospective buyers, and explore avenues for partnership in the defence and maritime sectors. The initiative also reflects MoDP’s broader commitment to contributing towards Pakistan’s maritime and blue economy development through enhanced industrial participation and local capacity building.

The Secretary Ministry of Defence Production visited and reviewed the arrangements at the Pavilion. In his remarks he underscored MoDP’s pivotal contribution to Pakistan’s blue economy and to the sustainable development of the maritime sector, including the growth of associated industries. He appreciated the MoDP team and its organisations for putting up a grand, professionally curated exhibition at the Expo. The Expo is expected to secure for MoDP substantial orders worth millions of rupees from potential buyers and industrial collaborators.

It may be added that MoDP besides promoting shipbuilding and ship repair business through KS&EW is also rigorously pursuing the efforts for establishing a larger Shipyard at Gwadar. This mega National Project shall be a great breakthrough towards construction of ULCC and VLCC level Cargo ships as well as Larger Naval ships for own Defence needs and exports as well, ultimately contributing billions of rupees in National economy and development of Gwadar/Balochistan.
