On the direction of the Worthy Prime Minister, Secretary, Ministry of National Food security and Research, Amir Muhyuddin chaired a high-level meeting convened on the issue of inter-provincial movement of wheat seed. Secretaries of provincial agriculture and Food departments along with Director Generals Agriculture as well as senior officers of the MNFS&R attended the meeting.
It was highlighted that inter-provincial movement of wheat seed was reportedly being hindered despite fulfilling all the agreed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by the seed companies. The provincial departments informed that all the seed convoys furnishing requisite movement documents were being allowed and further underscored that necessary directions have been passed to the authorities of the food departments to facilitate the movement on priority basis.
A high-level supervisory committee under the chair of the Secretary MNFS&R was also constituted which shall meet regularly on every Wednesday to review the inter-provincial movement of wheat seed. Furthermore, it was decided that FSC&RD shall depute its officers at the check-posts on all inter-provincial routes connecting Punjab with other provinces to facilitate the food department for timely verification and facilitating the movement of seed to other provinces.
