Today is the International Day for Snow Leopards, the fabled Ghost of the Mountains, a powerful emblem of our home planet’s highest and most fragile ecosystem. We join the international community in committing to appreciating and protecting this iconic species. There are less than a few thousand of these majestic beasts left in the world, a sad state of affairs, of which Pakistan hosts approximately 220. These elusive cats are vital for maintaining healthy ecosystems and safeguarding the natural heritage of our mountains. Through habitat protection, scientific monitoring, and community-led conservation, Pakistan is working to ensure that the snow leopard continues to thrive in the wild. More efforts are needed for which we are cognizant and dedicated.
