SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan Chairs High-Level Committee Meeting on Bottlenecks in Meat Export to Malaysia

Islamabad: October 16, 2025

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan, chaired a high-level meeting of the committee formed to address bottlenecks in Pakistan’s meat exports to Malaysia.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Industries and Production Mr. Saif Anjum, representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, Green Corporate Livestock Initiative, and both public and private sector stakeholders.

Participants held detailed deliberations on the challenges hindering Pakistan’s meat exports to Malaysia and possible solutions to overcome them. The committee identified major obstacles including high production costs, rising utility expenses, smuggling, and the absence of boneless meat processing facilities.

Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan highlighted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif envisions enhancing Pakistan’s meat exports to Malaysia, emphasizing that Pakistani halal meat enjoys strong demand in international markets.

He further noted that certain segments of the meat industry remain undocumented and must be formalized to ensure transparency and traceability. The government, he said, is committed to taking all possible measures to strengthen regional competitiveness.

“The meat exported from Pakistan is disease-free and certified halal. The government will extend full facilitation to investors to promote meat exports,” he stated.

He stressed the need for joint efforts between the public and private sectors to boost exports and strengthen the national economy.

Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan reaffirmed that the export of beef and buffalo meat from Pakistan will fully comply with international quality and hygiene standards.
