The University of Health Sciences (UHS) and Sheikh Zayed Medical Complex (SZMC), Lahore, have entered into an agreement to collaborate in research and academics.

The agreement was signed here at UHS on Saturday by UHS Vice Chancellor, Maj Gen ® Prof Muhammad Aslam and SZMC Chairman & Dean, Prof Dr Farid Ahmad Khan. UHS Chairman Board of Governors (BoG), Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and other BoG members were also present on this occasion.

Punjab government has already affiliated the teaching units of SZMC including Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Medical & Dental College, Lahore, Federal Postgraduate Medical Institute (FPGMI), Lahore and Allied Institutions, with UHS for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Earlier these institutes were affiliated with Punjab University.

According to the agreement, UHS would accredit established programmes of affiliated teaching units of Sheikh Zayed Medical Complex, Lahore, following due process for the award of certificates diplomas and degrees.

The agreement also envisages collaboration and cooperation in teaching and learning including joint programme development, institutional exchanges by inviting faculty and staff to participate in teaching and research activities and continuing professional development.

Research is the main agenda of the agreement under which both institutions have agreed to organize joint symposia, conferences, courses and meetings. It also envisages coordinated research in selected areas besides providing training of scientific and technical personnel for research and development.
